I was also advocating those that has completed their studies to deschool themselves, otherwise we get caught by the propaganda and our mindsets become too rigid. So rigid that in some cases, many adults believe that LKY build Singapore when all live in kampong houses and earned their living as fishermen.

Thanks for the links. Let;s just recap what made finnish education a global success story:

(a) very high teacher to student ratio. mind you, their pop is 5 million, which is comparable to us if you exclude foreign workers.

(b) very high expectations for teachers, including post graduate degrees like masters' (top 10% of graduates), insistence of professionalism.

(c) "failure is not an option" mentality

(d) relaxed atmosphere in class

(e) continuity of teaching; students stay with same teachers for years

(f) involved parents

(g) finnish culture values education

(h) small class size

(i) respect between administrators and teachers. teachers have own lockers, good facilities, to help them work well.

(j) very high respect and pride for teachers from all parties -- students, parents, the public. regard teachers as the centre of the child's education

(l) teachers show very high level of initiative

(k) a focus on integrated learning -- science, culture, arts, application, all rolled into one


Note that the points in bold are what finland has and what SG doesn't have. SG only has two points (f), (g) out of the 12 points listed.

it was my hubris and mistake that i inadvertently scared the shit out of windsor. if windsor is reading this, i sincerely apologize. it was never meant to be a malignant message towards you personally, but a tip off about the feds scouring sites, especially those associated with pornography and prostitution (even though this site is categorically not), for the faintest content, perceived, alleged or otherwise, on anything resembling child pimping and trafficking. it was a misunderstanding. sorry. :o
