Taxi 'explodes' near Buona Vista MRT; parts of Commonwealth Avenue closed

SINGAPORE — A Trans-cab taxi exploded and burst into flames near Buona Vista MRT station on Sunday afternoon (April 30), causing Commonwealth Avenue to be closed to traffic.

According to several eyewitness reports on social media, there was a "loud boom and lots of smoke" when the taxi caught fire.

Photos posted online also showed Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel on the scene trying to put out the fire, which was reportedly extinguished by around 3pm.
