We have so much trouble with the cutoff date for the Baby Package. The first cutoff date of 1 January 2009 brought a lot of protest from expecting mothers with babies due to be delivered this year. The revised cutoff date of 17 August produced another group of unhappy parents whose babies arrived earlier this year.

We faced this problem with cutoff date on many occasions during the past 25 years. Each time that new incentives were introduced, many parents felt disadvantaged by being on the wrong side of the cutoff date.

We never learned the lesson. Our birth-rate continued to decline over the years, in spite of the repeated efforts.

I met a Singaporean couple who worked in Perth and had their baby delivered there. The incentives given to parents in Australia are:

> AUD 5,000 on delivery of the baby
> 5 months of paid maternity leave
> An allowance to the mother who stopped work to look after the baby during the first two years
The incentive is simple, compared to our Baby Package introduced in Singapore.

Singapore has the unique system of incentives that differ according to the tax bracket of the parents, the working status of the mother, the birth order of the baby, the date of birth and other factors. We need to read a detailed booklet and to ask for explanation to understand the incentives.

Everything in Singapore is world class including it's baby bonus which only a rocket scientist would understand.

baby bonus is 1 thing, the biggest problem is the sudden increase from 2 days to 6 days of child care leave. 2/3 of the year is almost ending, left with 4 months. suddenly 4 more days, how are the bosses gonna handle with the extra leave?

since initially it was 2days, so the extra is 4 days, 1/3 of the year is left so = 1 1/3 day of leave extra, to make it easier and round it to 2. at least make more sense then giving 4 extra days when 2008 is only left with 4 months.

pay me 10% of his salary and i will do a better job.

Real beneficiaries are the Indian, Pinoy, Burmese and PRC FTrash "new citizens", who are breeding like nobody's biz. Expect them to ship out before their kids are due for NS though.

Yaloh. In Singapore, everything is so fucking complicated. That's what the PAPpy ministers are for. They get sky-high salaries to make life complicated for us instead of making it simple :(

So simple and yet you don't under-the-stand.

The Pappies here only want the desireable ,to give birth and have desirable off springs...so HOW MUCH YOU EARN PRIMARILY DEFINES YOUR DESIRABILITY!

If you can't make the list or rather the bracket of desireable income, you should quit and go take up the Aussie package instead!

a typical example of working with the reality of imperfection. fortune can only favour some brave.

"The incentive is simple, compared to our Baby Package introduced in Singapore."
everything should be made as simple as possible but not simple.

There need to be a cut off date. What ever cut off date some will not be happy. Those born before the announcement by PM LHL should not blame the system. She will not get the package also is no statement being make or in his mind no new package when she is pregnant. So is FAIR.
But she will get other benefit like extra childcare leave.

Almost up there with our taxi fare structure

Then again, why am I not surprised, given the huge amount of "high-educated" scholars that we have - they have never heard of the KISS principle - Keep It Simple, Stupid!

It's yet another reflection of the SORRY state of the BEST paid govt in the world, the main objective is always to to enrich itself, shortchange the people and perpetuate 1-Familee rule. Whatever they do, this is their ultimate objective. They are always thinking how to get back as many dollars back from the people for every of the dollar they return to u. Blinded by a 154th state media, 66% Sporns are still frogs in the well and think that PAPee is the sky and accept the situation meekly.

Most babies born by Singkie women will grow up to be spoilt and whiny brats who will use up more of the world's resources than what they give back to the world.
They will be value transferers and not value creators.
Why give incentives to create more of these creatures?
