<!-- /tab-gallery-area -->SINGAPORE: A 59-year-old woman succumbed to dengue and died at Gleneagles Hospital on Wednesday, in the first dengue death of the year.
The woman, who lived at Tampines Street 32, was diagnosed with dengue at Changi General Hospital on December 30.

She was later transferred to Gleneagles Hospital for treatment, under a collaboration between the two institutions for the management of dengue patients.

Last year, seven people died of the disease.

The Health Ministry said the latest case was not located within a dengue cluster, but vector control operations are ongoing to search and destroy potential mosquito breeding habitats.

The ministry also called on residents to stay vigilant and clear any stagnant water in their homes and surroundings.

Too many construction work going on to house 6.9 million plus building infrastructures to support the increase in population. Now there is no more space in hospitals, so patients have to stay in makeshift tents. One citizen dies 10 more will replace the dead.:(

Dengue epidemic slowing down but it is not over: Dr Balakrishnan

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/dengue-epidemic-slowing/947282.html

SINGAPORE: The dengue epidemic has gone down since the peak of 2013 but it is not over, Environment and Water Resources Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said on Wednesday on the sidelines of a symposium.

His comments come after the death of a 59-year-old woman who died of dengue on Wednesday.

Dr Balakrishnan said there is still much work to be done, including eliminating mosquito breeding sites because it is still the most effective way to protect the population.

He pointed out that over 85 per cent of dengue infections are due to the Dengue Type 1 variant, for which Singaporeans tend to have a low immunity.

As such, Dr Balakrishnan said National Environment Agency officers still have a lot of groundwork to do to remove any mosquito breeding sites.

He also urged the public to make their neighbourhoods and homes safe.

Dr Balakrishnan said: "This is something which has to be done at the domestic level, at the home level and at the neighbourhood level. There are no shortcuts, and there is no magic bullet."

The Tiger Mosquitoes do not know whether the person it is biting is god walking amongst mere mortals or he is just a road sweeper. Hopefully one of these "gods" dies from dengue for them to take more drastic measures to contain the problem.
