It’s not a crime should let her practice her trade
A Filipino foreign domestic worker in Singapore secretly worked as a prostitute, serving over a thousand clients and earning more than S$100,000 in the span of four years.
One of her clients later became her pimp and profited S$6,300 from the arrangement.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the client, a 37-year-old man, faced six charges of violating the Women's Charter.
He pleaded guilty to two of them in court on Feb. 2, with the remaining charges taken into consideration during sentencing.
He was sentenced to six months' jail and fined S$6,300.
A gag order has also been imposed.
Investigations later revealed that the woman was a 46-year-old Filipino national, who had been working as a domestic helper in Singapore since 2013 and held a valid work permit at the time.
She began engaging in prostitution around 2021 after meeting a man who assisted her by advertising her services online and liaising with clients.
She paid him a commission of S$30 for each transaction.
Later in the same year, the offender became one of her clients and engaged her services four to five times.
After her pimp returned to his home country, the woman asked the offender to take over his role, to which he agreed.
Court documents stated that the woman served an estimated 20 to 30 clients each month, and this added up to about a thousand clients in total.
Between January 2021 and February 2024, she paid the offender no less than S$6,300 in commission.
However, the arrangement later changed, with no monetary commission exchanged.
Instead, the woman provided sexual services to the offender, with the two having sexual relations about once or twice a week.
The maid also introduced two friends who were involved in prostitution to the offender, who then helped them solicit customers.
Between January 2021 and November 2024, the woman earned at least S$108,000 from providing sexual services.
Encounters took place at clients’ homes, the offender’s residence, or hotel rooms.
The costs of the services ranged from S$80 to S$150, which were paid directly to the woman via cash or electronic transfer.
The domestic helper would also pay the offender a commission of S$30 for each client she served.
The case came to light during a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) inspection on Nov. 7, 2024.
The woman was subsequently arrested at an MOM service centre after authorities were alerted to suspected prostitution activities involving a domestic helper.
The offender was arrested by police a week later on Nov. 14, 2024.
