Taiwan raises hourly minimum wage to NT$115 from Jan. 1

The hourly minimum wage in Taiwan will be increased from the current NT$109 (US$3.66) to NT$115 (US$3.86), starting next year, the country's Council of Labor Affairs announced Monday.
In cases where the hourly minimum wage of employees falls below NT$115, employers should make adjustments in accordance with the new regulation, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2014, the CLA said.
It said that starting July 1, 2014, the minimum monthly wage will also be raised, from NT$19,047 (US$639) to NT$19,273 (US$647).
Employers who fail to abide by the new minimum wage regulations could face a fine of between NT$20,000 and NT$300,000 (US$670-S$10,065), the labor council warned.
Furthermore, the CLA said, it will publish the names of recalcitrant companies and their chief executives.
Workers can file minimum wage-related complaints or appeals with the labor affairs departments in their cities or counties of residence, the CLA advised.
