Congratulations to the Taiwanese for their support of democracy. Whomever rules now have bigger responsibilities to lead & guide the nation.
It is sad that only 59% of the population took part in the elections. It seems the other 41% are not interested on who rules over them. As Free Will is a gift to Humanity, they will have to bear the consequences for the direction that the nation takes under new leadership, & cannot complain or seek further help from the international community should the nation takes a turn to the worst. Thanks to the 41%.
While there is much fear over the rhetoric over the fears of China's claim over the island, & used as a campaign strategy by the ruling party, it had evidently failed as A) events in China - zero Covid policies- had watered down such threats, B) Taiwanese concerns are more about bread & butter issues now, after post Covid era. The KMT had done well, more so when 41% are not interested on whom governs, & left the votes to those whom are more politically motivated to choose.
The KMT party claims it does not represent China, a claim that it will have to substantiate by actions & not by words alone. Dialogues are often better than rhetoric of war, & China, despite its threats of military battles, has NO desire to destroy the island, but rather to take it whole as it did in Xinjiang & Hong Kong, as it knows the high cost of wars, that sadly, its ally - PrezPutin of RUS - did not.
Taiwan is not the 51st State of USA. Its interest is only on trade. Whomever rules Taiwan, he/she should not hinder trade & the free movement & exchange of trade, ideas, innovations & Humans on the island & more critically, the seas around it. Thus, to avoid any conflict & trade to progress & prosper all, it would be best that such policy remains no matter whom rules Taiwan.
