TAFEP is investigating an alleged recruitment advertisement for Micron Singapore engineering roles that stated applications were limited to Malaysians, after the company said the posting was not authorised.

SINGAPORE: The Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP) has reached out to Micron Singapore and begun investigating an online recruitment advertisement that allegedly restricted engineering job applications to Malaysians.

According to local Mandarin media outlet 8World News, TAFEP said on 22 June 2026 that it was conducting investigations into the matter.

The case emerged after a Threads user posted an advertisement promoting engineering graduate opportunities at Micron Technology’s Singapore operations, stating that the positions were only open to Malaysians.

The post, published on 10 June by user “wolfeking.kl”, advertised roles at Micron Singapore and attracted attention after users questioned the nationality restriction and the recruitment method.

Micron Singapore reportedly told TAFEP that the recruitment advertisement had not been published under the company’s instructions or authorisation.

The Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) had earlier confirmed in an email response to The Online Citizen dated 15 June 2026 that it was looking into the matter.

Recruitment post raises questions over hiring process​

The Threads post claimed to be recruiting engineering graduates for opportunities at Micron Singapore.

The post stated: “Any uni engineering students graduating soon looking to work in Micron? Top semiconductor company in the world.”

It advertised monthly salaries ranging from S$4,000 to S$5,000 for positions in Singapore and claimed recruitment partners could assist successful applicants in obtaining full-time employment.

Interested candidates were asked to contact the poster through direct messages, while a Google Form link was provided in the comments section.

The Threads post has since been removed, but the Google Form link remained available.

The form stated that a 'thrid-party talent partner' was “helping engineering students approaching graduation explore career opportunities with Micron Technology”.

It targeted final-year students and recent graduates with strong academic records in engineering fields including Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering.

The advertised positions included Facilities Engineer, Test Engineer, Wet Process Engineer, Automation Engineer and Cleanroom Engineer.

Applicants were encouraged to have a basic understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, while the form stated that “ONLY the BEST will be selected”.

Concerns over referral claims and nationality restriction​

Some Threads users questioned why applications were being collected through a Google Form instead of Micron’s official recruitment channels.

One commenter described the process as “kinda fishy”.

The original poster defended the recruitment approach, saying candidates could still apply through Micron’s human resources department and compete with “MOUNTAINS of other candidates”.

The poster said using a referral network could provide a way of “cutting the queue”.

The discussion intensified after users questioned why the opportunity was allegedly limited to Malaysians despite the jobs being based in Singapore.

When asked why only Malaysians were being targeted, the original poster replied: “Gotta help my own country, just for this particular one ok.”

The job advertisement was also shared on Reddit, where some netizens argued that restricting applicants to Malaysians was inconsistent with Singapore’s fair employment principles and called on the authorities to investigate the matter.

TAFEP highlights fair employment requirements​

TAFEP said employers must comply with the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices and the Fair Consideration Framework during recruitment.

The alliance said employers are required to fairly consider job applicants and must not make discriminatory decisions based on factors unrelated to work requirements, including nationality, age, gender or race.

TAFEP also highlighted that employers engaging overseas recruitment agencies or partners must ensure those parties comply with Singapore’s recruitment regulations.

The alliance said it takes all forms of employment discrimination seriously and would work closely with MOM.

It added that appropriate action would be taken if breaches of relevant requirements were found.
