Backgorund story: Auditor-General Finds “Major Lapses” in Workers' Party Town Council accounts
The Auditor General has released its report on the accounts of Workers' Party's town council and highlighted that there were several major lapses in the way accounts were kept.
Responding to the report, WP Chairman Sylvia Lim explained that since it has been announced that Khaw Boon Wan would file a motion in parliament, they would discuss it in detail in parliament.
Ms Lim explained that in the meantime, the public should read through the whole report rather than just reading the headlines features in Mainstream Media which just summarize selected points of the report.
She said that this could give people "a better understanding of the issues”.
“I think it’s better for people to go in with an open mind, rather than me trying to preempt certain matters,” said Ms Lim.
The AGO report was put together after Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam asked the AGO to audit WP accounts following a disclaimer of opinion put forward by the town council's own independent auditor.
