The infant who went missing on August 7. Photo: SCMPA Suzhou couple who said their two-month-old baby was snatched from their home 10 days ago have appealed online for help to find the infant.

Photos of the child and calls to contact the police with information were posted on social media sites on the mainland.

The child's father, identified only by his surname Zhu, said yesterday that the family was at home when their daughter disappeared late on August 7.

"It's been more than a week and not a single clue," Zhu said. "We are at a complete loss."

Zhu and his wife, surnamed Zhao, are from Anhui and make a living selling scrap in Suzhou, Jiangsu . The couple also have a 17-year-old son.

A sobbing Zhu yesterday said their daughter, who was born on June 6, "has big eyes, double-eyelids, and loves to smile".

He said that on the day the child went missing, he and his wife had taken her to a nearby park to play.

Zhao took the infant back home after nightfall and left her on the couple's bed to sleep while she went out to clean a milk bottle. Zhao returned 20 minutes later to find the child sound asleep and went to watch television in another room.

At about 10.45pm, Zhu came home and the couple discovered the girl was missing.

After searching the area, the anxious couple notified the police at about 11pm.

The infant was wearing a rose-coloured top, pale blue socks, and was covered by a grey blanket when she disappeared, the Modern Express reported.

A Modern Express reporter who visited the family's home said the couple, who lived in impoverished conditions, clearly loved their child very much.

Zhu said police collected DNA samples from the home and were searching for the child but had no clues as to who took the baby or how she disappeared. "We just keep waiting," he said.
