<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"-->A TURKISH man who claimed that an aircraft was about to explode was fined $1,000 on Monday.
Ismet Nurcin, 30, who is self-employed and an Australian permanent resident, was also jailed four weeks on a second charge for using criminal force on SATS Auxiliary officer Noor Azhary Daud, 29, on Aug 29.
The incident happened at a gate holding room at Changi Airport Terminal 1 when Ismet was waiting in transit to catch a connecting flight to Turkey.
A Community Court heard that Ismet, who pleaded guilty to two charges, had offered a bar of chocolate to Mr Noor Azhary who declined.
When asked for his passport and boarding pass, Ismet did not answer and said that he was having some family problems.
He was then seen walking and talking to passengers.
About 10 minutes later, when Mr Noor Azhary asked him if he was travelling on the Turkish flight, Ismet responded, 'No, the aircraft is going to explode.'
Several other passengers also heard him say this.
When Mr Azhary tried to calm him, Ismet threatened to 'get'' him, and also pushed the officer on the shoulders and scratched his right hand.
Ismet's lawyer S.S. Dhillon said his client, a father of five, was suffering from substance-induced psychoses at the time of the offence. Ismet had taken various drugs in Perth two days before his flight to Singapore, the court heard.

=> The effect would have worn off by then and yet the KKJ court could give him the benefit of doubt that he'd not taken it while in Peesai! Which could have been punishable by death!

Neo Khoon Sing, 38, immediately served notice to appeal against conviction and sentence. He was found guilty last week after a long trial of sending out the three messages on Oct 18 and 19, 2005.
Neo was then with the Environmental Health Department at the NEA North East Regional Office at Sin Ming Drive.
<SCRIPT language=JavaScript src="/static/ads/scripts/adsimu.js"></SCRIPT>The first message reported 'rumours of possible suicide bomb in Bedok area in 2 to 3 weeks time' while the second warned of a 'possible bomb attack in Singapore in an event with water activities involving head of state, ministers etc within a month.'
The third mentioned a 'plot to conduct suicide bomb attack against PM, Ministers and MPs in a major event in Bedok Reservoir area in the coming weeks''.
All the messages were sent using fake Muslim names to the websites of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Prime Minister's Office.
<!-- show media links starting at 7th para -->District Judge Bala Reddy on Friday said threats of terrorism could not be under-estimated in today's world.
'Each time such threats are made, valuable public resources are deployed to deal with such threats,' he said.
The offences came under the United Nations (Anti-Terrorism) Regulations, which seek to prevent people from exploiting the current sentiment and fear of terrorist attacks by causing false alarms.
Judge Reddy said offenders must be punished to send a clear and unequivocal message to all offenders.
'The accused deliberately sent three messages peppered with alarming details of a terror attack against the Prime Minister and and other leaders,' he said. Fortunately, competent law enforcement officers were quickly able to establish that the messages were false.
However, investigation had still be be conducted to bring Neo to justice.
Neo could have been fined up to $100,000 or jailed for up to five years or both for each count.
