IT SOUNDS like the plot of Face/Off with Nicolas Cage and John Travolta but one woman in India was convinced it was a good plan.

Gulf News reports that 28-year-old woman, Swathi, from Telangana, India hatched a plan with her lover Rajesh to kill her husband Sudhakar Reddy, 32.

Police officer DSP A Lakshminarayana told Gulf News that Reddy had learned about his wife’s affair a few days before his murder and that Swathi attacked him with a blunt object when he returned home on November 26.

She called Rajesh who arrived and the pair allegedly killed Reddy together, took him into the forest in a rolled up mat and burnt the body.

Two days later, Swathi threw acid on Rajesh’s face and body, apparently with his blessing, in an attempt to pass him off as her husband.

While it sounds like the storyline to Face/Off, where Travolta and Cage undergo a medical procedure to swap faces, police said it was more likely inspired by the 2014 Indian film Yevadu meaning ‘who’ where one of the characters has plastic surgery to assume the identity of another man.

Reddy’s family even lodged a complaint with police over the “gang attack” that they were told had injured their son.

They became suspicious though when his behaviour seemed out of character. They brought mutton soup to the hospital for him, one of Reddy’s favourite meals, only for the impostor to declare he was a vegetarian.

Police took Rejesh’s fingerprints and discovered that he wasn’t the man he was claiming to be.

Swathi was also taken into custody and reportedly admitted murdering her husband, leading police to where they burnt his body.

Rajesh is due to appear in court when he leaves hospital.

Telangana: Mutton soup helps police arrest woman who killed husband, passed off lover as him
After the murder, the lover got his face disfigured with acid and tried to impersonate the husband.

The Telangana Police arrested a woman on Sunday for murdering her husband and trying to pass off her lover as her spouse. The woman almost succeeded, but was foiled by a bowl of mutton soup.

After the murder, the woman, Swati, and her lover Rajesh decided to disfigure Rajesh’s face with acid so that he could impersonate her husband Sudhakar Reddy, IANS reported. But, the family became suspicious when Rajesh refused to eat mutton soup as he was a vegetarian, which Sudhakar was not.

Swati, a 27-year-old nurse, had been married to Sudhakar for three years, but she later had an affair with Rajesh, a physiotherapist. The two allegedly hatched the murder plan together.

Swati told police that the two killed Sudhakar on November 27, and burned his body in a forest. To pretend that Sudhakar was not missing, they disfigured Rajesh’s face with acid and brought him to the hospital for a plastic surgery. Swati told her husband’s family that some unknown people had attacked him.

After Rajesh refused to have mutton soup, the family began to notice other differences in his behaviour. They later called police, after which Swati confessed to the crime.

She said she got the idea from the 2014 Telugu film Yevadu, in which a plastic surgeon gives an injured man the face of her deceased son. Rajesh will be arrested after he is discharged from the hospital, police said.

The woman and her boyfriend were caught after police matched fingerprints with her dead husband's Aadhar card

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that soon after watching a movie, at some point, many must have secretly desired a chance to play an attractive role.

Taking inspiration from one such Telugu movie 'Yevadu', a Telangana woman named Swathi Reddy tried to pull off the same plot in real life!

According to reports in India Today, Swathi, a married woman from Nagarkurnool district of Telangana, killed her husband to live with her lover. Similar to the way the movie unfolds, Swathi along with her boyfriend Rajesh, murdered her husband Sudhakar Reddy and burned his body in a forest.

Then, as planned, Swathi poured acid on her boyfriend's face to disfigure him beyond recognition. She then called her husband Sudhakar's family, informing them that their son has met with an accident.

The family, along with Swathi, rushed her boyfriend, now posing as Sudhakar, to the hospital for plastic surgery. After the surgery, Sudhakar's family felt something was amiss and called the police who decided to match the imposter's fingerprints with Sudhakar's Aadhaar details.

This finally busted Swathi and Rajesh's plot and investigation revealed that the two had killed Sudhakar on November 26.

Sudhakar's family was oblivious of Swathi and Rajesh's sinister plans and were shocked to learn that it was Rajesh and not their son whom they had hospitalised.

The duo has been arrested and are in judicial custody.

  • murdered her husband and disfigured the boyfriend so that he can impersonate the husband and take possession of his assets. Nagarkurnool police arrested the woman on Sunday, 10 December.

The Times of India reported that 27-year-old Swathi, a nurse, along with her partner, Rajesh, a physiotherapist, allegedly murdered her husband M Sudhakar Reddy, two weeks ago, and dumped his body in a forest area in Mahabubnagar.

Sudhakar Reddy was a resident of Nagarkurnool. According to the report, Swathi and Rajesh injected Sudhakar with anaesthetic injection at 5 am while he was asleep, and later beat him to death with an iron rod.

After returning home, Swathi as per plan smeared acid on Rajesh’s face to disfigure him. Later, she called her relatives and told them that some unidentified persons entered and threw petrol on her husband.

Sudhakar Reddy was operating a stone-crushing unit. He married Swathi, a trained nurse, and the couple was blessed with two children. Swathi would go to Rajesh for physiotherapy and later they started having an affair. The duo felt Sudhakar was an obstacle in their relationship and decided to eliminate him. They hatched a conspiracy to ensure Rajesh could take the place of Sudhakar and even take control over properties.

Rajesh, who was pretending as Sudhakar, was shifted to Apollo Hospital. Sudhakar’s brother lodged a complaint with police on 28 November about the attack on his ‘brother’.

Soon, as the burns started healing, Sudhakar’s family members suspected that the man availing treatment was not Sudhakar. As the suspicion grew, they asked him to identify the family members.

Fearing that he would be caught if they recognised his voice, Rajesh continued pretending as Sudhakar and spoke to them only in writing. Reddy’s relatives got suspicious when he refused to have mutton soup served to patients with burn injuries. They were shocked when he told the hospital staff that he is a vegetarian as the ‘real’ Reddy used to take non-vegetarian food. Their suspicions were confirmed when he couldn’t identify the family members.
Subsequently, they filed a complaint with the police and also raised suspicion about Swathi in the whole incident. Following interrogation, Swathi confessed about the murder and shared all information about the crime including the location where the body was disposed.

Police retrieved the body and handed it over to the family members. Both Swathi and Rajesh have been booked for murder.
While Swathi was arrested on 10 December, Rajesh will be arrested as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.

Woman Poured Acid on Lover’s Face so He Could Impersonate Her Murdered Husband

A woman and her lover hatched a plan to get rid of her husband and continue their relationship in public: After allegedly killing the husband, her lover agreed to be disfigured with acid so he could replace him, impersonating him after the surgery.

Police in the Indian state of Telangana retraced the steps leading to the death of Sudhakar Reddy after interrogating and arresting his wife, named as Swathi in local media. A 27-year-old nurse, Swathi was married to Reddy and the couple had two children. But Swathi was having an affair with 32-year-old radiotherapist Rajesh Ajjakolu, who worked at the same hospital.

“The duo felt Sudhakar was an obstacle in their relationship and decided to eliminate him. They hatched a conspiracy to ensure Rajesh could take the place of Sudhakar and even take control over properties,” police official Lakshmi Narayana told the Times of India.

Another officer told Gulf News that Reddy had found out about the two-year-old affair and Swathi had become fearful of her husband.

According to the police reconstruction, the couple killed Reddy in his sleep by hitting him with an iron rod after sedating him and then burned the body in a forest before dumping it in a ditch.

Swathi then poured acid on Ajjakolu’s face, telling Reddy’s relatives the man had been disfigured after attackers entered their home. Reddy’s brother reported the incident to the police, who began investigating the alleged home intrusion.

At first, Reddy’s family believed Swathi and brought the man to a private hospital in the state capital Hyderabad. They noticed some behavioral and physical differences, but they only started doubting the men’s identity when he refused mutton soup, a dish their relative was known to love, saying he was vegetarian, police sources said.

“It was then the family began suspecting him. They asked him to identify the family members. The ‘fake’ Sudhakar refused to open his mouth and conversed with them by writing on his palm,” an official involved in the investigation told Gulf News.

The police then ran a scan of the man’s fingerprints, revealing he was not Reddy. They began questioning Swathi, who admitted to the murder and gave police information to recover her husband’s remains from the forest. She was arrested Sunday.

Police are now waiting to arrest Ajjakolu, as soon as he is treated for the burns and discharged from the hospital, where Reddy’s family brought him, believing it was their son, and paid up to 500,000 rupees ($7,758) in bills, according to the BBC.

Indian media commented the crime resembled the plot of the 2014 Indian movie Yevadu, in which a man seeks revenge on his lovers’ killers under the guise of a new face.

Yevadu’s plot resembled that of 1997 Hollywood blockbuster Face/Off, in which an FBI agent undergoes a facial transplant surgery to impersonate a terrorist he thought dead, but who in turn undergoes a similar surgery to resemble the FBI agent.
