Hussein, 42, a salesman, blames the miscalculation of the Housing Development Board (HDB) official for their homeless state.

But a spokesperson for HDB said that Hussein had provided inaccurate information to the board when purchasing the flat, leading to miscalculations.

Hussein's wife said that when they did the paperwork for selling their house last May, the HDB official said they could easily afford a five-room flat.

However, after selling their flat, they found that they were short of $13,750. They had no extra cash to pay for their new home.

The family ended up homeless and lived in a tent in White Sands Park for a while before being discovered by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

They were sent to a temporary shelter, which they will have to evacuate by the end of this month.
