Hard power is not the problem.

It's soft power that will hold China back. Plus 400-plus years of Western supremacy will make it very difficult for them to accept a superpower not from their culture.

Look at the flak and animosity that Japan was getting in the West when it was on the up-and-up in the '80s, with some foreseeing Japan as #1. The bubble burst, the crash came, and the West loved Japan again.

Absolutely agree. The Taiwanese and PRC Chinese are one on their identity as Chinese. Their quarrel is really with the political system and the legitimacy of the CCP vs KMT.

I don't rely on anyone for clone hunting. Put it simply, almost every moniker here are anonymous whether they are clones or not except for a few with their identities exposed or made known, so u can't be 100% accurate. The other thing is some people are into nick sharing.

the KMT was practically pleading with the US to militarily intervene on behalf of them in the civil war during early 1949 but the Americans refused to do it. Soviet Stalin advised Mao Zedong not to advance South of the Yangtze. Mao ignored Stalin's advice. Mao had the conquest of whole China in sight. Stalin was smarter than the Americans. he knew that a division of China into North and South China would be in the Soviet Union's best interests. China was real close to being divided by the powers then.

Nah... if history is any guide both China and USA will collapse and splinter under their own weight.

USA's states will start secession from the union.

China will splinter up like the Soviet Union. Ethnic minority autonomous fringe regions will break away and declare independence.

No dynasty, no empire will last forever. When the conditions are right, the implosion will begin.

There's no need to constantly fawn over the People's Republic of China, simply because you are an ethnic Chinese. I feel no compulsion to sing the praises of a communist regime. In fact, I feel no cultural affinity to the PRC folks outside of the southern provinces. Henan, Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Heilongjiang, Sichuan, Xi'an etc.
