To make sure students attend a YOG event, a school has imposed a $5 deposit on them, says STOMPer Fox. Parents were apparently asked to sign a consent form informing them that their $5 will be forfeited if the students do not turn up for the event.
The STOMPer attached several notices from different schools informing parents and students about YOG-related matters.
A consent form from Kuo Chuan Primary School informed students that they are required to pay a $5 refundable deposit. Their deposit will be returned if only the student turns up for the YOG event.
Meanwhile, Queenstown Primary School tells parents and students that the prelim and mid-term exams have been postponed because of the YOG.
At St Patrick's School, attendance is compulsory for all students at the YOG Torch Relay Carnival, which fell on a Sunday.
Zhenghua Primary School students were also affected by the YOG Torch Relay. The students were dismissed later than normal on last Wednesday, Aug 11.
Said the STOMPer:
"On top of making students pay, schools made them sign forms informing that their $5 will be forfeited if they do not turn up for YOG. What is happening?"
