THE volcanic ash across Europe from Iceland has had far-reaching effects.

At Changi Airport, the flight disruptions since Thursday have already affected an estimated 6,000 travellers; mainly customers of Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Qantas and Air France/KLM.

On Friday, 15 flights to London, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and Moscow were cancelled, and another four re-scheduled. Given Changi's airhub status, a good number of affected travellers are stranded in transit.

For SIA, with one out of two travellers a connecting passenger, hunting for hotel rooms in Singapore has not been easy.

For those stranded at the airport, Changi and the airlines are doing what they can, to make them comfortable, like giving meal vouchers.
