Taipei, Aug. 31 (CNA) Tropical storms Trami and Kong-Rey have caused agricultural losses of NT$332.85 million (US$11.12 million) in Taiwan, the Council of Agriculture estimated Saturday, saying the figure was valid as of 11 a.m.

It said losses of NT$252.92 million were sustained in the agricultural produce sector, NT$64.27 million in livestock, fishery and forestry, and NT$15.66 million in damage to facilities.

Tropical Storm Trami swiped Taiwan Aug. 21, followed by Kong-Rey on Aug. 28, causing widespread flooding in central and southern Taiwan.

Chiayi County suffered the heaviest agricultural losses, estimated at NT$134.81 million, followed by Yunlin County with losses of NT$86.58 million, Tainan City NT$22.31 million, and Miaoli County NT$20.39 million, the COA said.

The hardest hit crops were rice, peanuts, corns, tomatoes and papayas, it said.
