Steve Jobs' widow 'finds happiness with DC mayor'

The widow of Steve Jobs appears to have found new happiness with a former mayor of Washington DC two years after the Apple co-founder's death.

Laurene Powell Jobs, 49, inherited an estate worth $10 billion when her husband died of cancer at the age of 56 in October 2011.

She is said to have started dating Adrian Fenty, 42, who was mayor of Washington between 2007 and 2011. He now works for a venture capital firm in Silicon Valley.

The relationship was first reported by the Washington Post newspaper which described how the pair first met at an education conference in 2011, where they discussed school reforms.

In February 2012 Mr Fenty joined the board of College Track, a charity for students co-founded by Mrs Jobs. At the time she described him as "one of our country’s great advocates for education reform,” and said his "sense of urgency and record of accomplishment is unparalleled.”

Sources told the Washington Post the relationship began as a friendship and became a “budding romance” around the time Mr Fenty and his wife of 15 years, Michelle, announced they were separating in January.

The couple have three children and the divorce has not yet been finalised.

There was no suggestion Mrs Jobs had any role in the split, the newspaper reported.

Mrs Jobs married the Apple co-founder in 1991 after they met at Stanford University and, despite being a major philanthropist, she has maintained a low public profile.

She sits on the boards of various education, women's rights and arts bodies. In 2010 she was appointed by President Barack Obama to the White House Council for Community Solutions, which advises him on education and job creation.
