BOTH movies were aired this Christmas, which makes the death of the actresses who starred in them that more poignant.

Alicia Rhett, one of the few surviving cast members of Gone with The Wind, and Barbara Lawrence, who starred in the musical Oklahoma! have died at the ages of 98 and 83 respectively.

Barbara Lawrence, who played Gertie Cummings in the 1955 classic musical, died of kidney failure in November, her daughter-in-law Christy Nelson confirmed last night.

Lawrence had a successful career during the late 1940s and 50s but came into her own starring against Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae in the much-loved family film.

She eventually left the film industry and settled in Oklahoma.

Meanwhile Gone With The Wind star, Alicia Rhett died in her home town of Charleston.

She played Ashley Wilkes's sister, India, in the epic movie alongside Clark Cable and Vivien Leigh.

Rhett died of natural causes yesterday at the Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community, a spokesman confirmed.

Surviving cast members now include Olivia de Havilland, 97, who played Ashley Wilkes's wife and Mickey Kuhn,81, who played their son, Beau Wilkes.

Rhett left Hollywood after the release of Gone with the Wind and retired from movies in 1941.
