Briton drowns at Patong
PHUKET: A British man, Peter John Cook, 47, drowned on Tuesday morning (July 24) at Patong Beach, before lifeguards came on duty.
Tanyaluk Sakoot
Thursday 26 July 2012, 09:59AM
Sakhon Chaithong, chief lifeguard at Patong Beach, told The Phuket News, “We were alerted that three people were in trouble. We reached the beach about 8.30am, but Mr Cook died on the way to Patong Hospital.
Mr Cook and his wife, daughter and son went to the beach at about 7am and he and his children went into the sea to swim.
Burmese workers saw them in trouble and used long poles to help them. Mr Cook pushed his children towards the rescuers, and the children were saved, but he himself was unable to hang on to the pole, and drowned before he could be retrieved.
Mr Sakhon added, “All life guards are on duty from 9am. We have red warning flags around danger areas.”
Mr Cook is the fourth person to die at Patong in the past two and a half months. Hundreds, however, have been saved by the lifeguards.

Have been to Phuket many times, Patong Beach is my favourite, have been there during the "seasons", except Christmas time. July is the start of the raining season, hotels etc..cheapest!! All the beaches there, Karon, Kata, etc have warning flags, you see RED, you don't go down the beach!!

iszzit now also Chines 7th Month ???

Patong Beach: there's a gay part and a non-gay part. The non-gay part is further split into the family-friendly part and the adult-oriented part.

It's a nice crescent-shaped beach. Sand is definitely better than Sentosa's.

which part you like best ?

He is very likely like many ang mohs here. THey are from small villages who grew up never seeing an elevator or a major highway. The true high class ang mohs stay in their own ang mor places. The cheap scrape from the middle and bottom from their country come to Singapore.

he goes which part ?

R.I.P.

there's no greater sacrifice he could have made than to exchange his own life for his children's!

hope his kids will cherish their lives an appreciate their father's love and final gift for them.......

It is a natural beach, have not been there since the Tsunami, and can't say, how much the shape of the beach had changed, but I know many of the familiar landmarks along the beach front had been swept away and rebuilt.

The gay part you are taking about is along the row of bars on the strech of the road at the middle of the crescent, the name of the road sounds like "bangla road"..and that is what I call it.

The beginning of the road facing the sea front is a shop selling films etc & there is big Kodak sign, in the middle towards the end are the bars, go go bars, pole dancing bars etc.. that is where the 'beautiful ladies' are...you can't tell the real stuff from the imitation.

I've only been to Phukets airport in transit. Would like to visit those beaches but never got around to it.
Aren't they usually "taller"

Some will even show you that something "extra" :D

Agree.

Patong beach at times can be dangerous because of strong under current. Last time, I nearly got carried out. Lucky my minah current threw me a rubber ducky float.

It was indeed a hair raising experience to say the least.:o

Will you still keep to the same conclusion if you read that in another article (Straits Times) that his wife is a Pinoy?
