StarHub is offering free viewing of more than 170 channels from 12pm on Friday for a week as compensation for a cable TV outage on Sept 28 that lasted up to four and a half hours.

In a statement on Thursday, StarHub said it understands the inconvenience customers had to go through and offered the free viewing "as a gesture of goodwill".

The free preview includes BBC World News, Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, TLC, AXN, Star World, BBC Lifestyle and FOX Movies Premium. Cinemax and HBO programmes are excluded.

Last Saturday, its cable TV services were temporarily disrupted at about 1am because of "a power supply issue at one of our network operation locations in Ayer Rajah", its chief technology officer Mock Pak Lum had said. He added that most of StarHub's 100-plus TV channels were restored within an hour, while the remaining channels - understood to be were fewer than 10 - were restored by 5.30am. StarHub said its cable broadband services were not affected by the disrupted power supply although the firm had posted on its Facebook page saying both services were unavailable.

Syrange that a outfit so big like Starhub does not have backup UPS??? :*:

This shows how clueless this Tan Tong Hai really is......how can a public announcement be so wrong, what if it's an emergency, now that Home Team can take over the broadcast in a national emergency??
