If you were hoping that the other telcos in Singapore will not be following SingTel's recent announcement to limit the data bundles of its current mobile plans, you're out of luck if you're with StarHub. A spokesperson from the carrier has just informed us that new and re-contracting customers will not be able to select the current 3G SmartSurf plans with a 12GB data bundle.

Instead, customers in the near future will have to choose the new 3G i2Surf smartphone plans instead. The lowest 3G i2Surf 100 has a 1GB data cap, while the middle tier 3G i2Surf 200 comes with 2GB and the most expensive 3G i2Surf plan has a 5GB cap. Note that these plans all come with two SIM cards so you can use the data bundle on both your smartphone and a 3G tablet. Any excess data usage above the bundled will incur extra charges up to S$30 on top of the plan price. Note that SingTel's excess data price cap is S$88.
