Strong response to ST drive
PHONES were ringing off the hook yesterday at the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) Media Centre as operators answered a never-ending string of calls on The Straits Times subscription campaign, which guarantees gifts to those who subscribe to the paper.
By 5pm, more than 1,000 subscribers had participated in the campaign.
Mr Chua Wee Phong, executive vice-president of SPH's circulation department, said the volume of calls and take-up rate of subscription were very encouraging.
The circulation department, concerned about coping with the onslaught of calls, doubled its number of operators.
A current subscriber, Mrs Kan Shih Han, said she had expected a long wait but was surprised at the quick response time of less than three minutes.
The 48-year-old property agent is satisfied with her current vendor's personalised service, but applied to subscribe straight from SPH because it 'gives me peace of mind to know that I'm dealing with the paper directly, and the assurance that the paper will be delivered to me reliably every day'.
