are we not missing the wood for the forest here ?...there is nothing about engineering marvel in making mask whether here or NZ....or elsewhere. Two things I suggest are :
1. Move to NZ. The air is a lot cleaner here.
2. Encourage the use of PMDs they are a godsend and will save us from ourselves.
let me rephrase..like manufacturing spectacle frame for example ..the alloy comes from countries like China ..but we don't pay top dollars to china made frames but for Italian designed German made frames
...masks are exactly the opposite ...by engineering German can churn out billions even cheaper than China ..but for the materials..Yes,not only the avilablity but the logistics of material movements since the logic of production vs importation.
but when masks becomes a stategic goods as of now than the cost factor becomes secondary...so it makes sense to produce our own ...but it still goes back to square one ...we meed to import the materials ..will countries that produce them will now do at this critical juncture ?
for example ,part of the material needed is pulp as in any paper making ...but pulp producers ,like finland and sweeden ,are not in the business of making material for masks...hope I made my point clear
