A former technical officer was sentenced to four weeks' jail and ordered to pay $1,600 for corruption.
Ahmad Aman, 54, had accepted $800 in return for not reporting damage caused by a construction firm to SP PowerGrid (SPPG).
The court was told that Ahmad, now jobless, was assigned to investigate a case of power street lighting outage at Marina Street on March 5, 2011.
A freelance cablet jointer, Mr Chua Kar Leng, who worked as a subcontractor for SPPG's term contractor United Works was asked to assess the situation.
A project supervisor from Ley Choon Construction and Engineering, Mr Ng Ah Tai, then asked Mr Chua how to talk Ahmad into being lenient in his report.
Mr Chua suggested that Mr Ng give Ahmad $800 in cash.
Ahmad received the money at Mr Chua's void deck in Bedok Reservoir Road. He was told the money was from someone in Ley Choon to thank him for not reporting that the power outage was caused by their work.
Another charge of corruption involving $800 and another contractor was considered during Ahmad's sentencing.
