S'porean wins case against M'sian scratch-and-win company

A Singaporean has won a case against a scratch-and-win company after she filed a complaint with the Consumer Claims Tribunal in Johor Baru.

According to the daily, the woman, only known as Yaw, was approached by a man on Oct 8 telling her that she had won a car but she needed to pay transport tax before it could be delivered to Singapore.

Yaw was taken to a goldsmith's shop and had her credit card swiped for RM8,548 (S$3500). When the bank called to clarify the transaction, the man told her to inform the bank that it was for the purchase of a Rolex watch.

Later, Yaw was told that she had won three cars and was asked to pay another RM8,500.

She suspected something amiss when she was asked to sign some documents and demanded her money back but the company refused.

The tribunal has instructed the company to refund Yaw RM17,048 within 14 days.
