Peking University Professor Illicit Relationship Exposed by Pregnant Student’s Friend

A PROFESSOR has had his teaching license revoked for an affair with a student that resulted in her pregnancy.

Peking University’s decision at the weekend came in response to letters from Liu Wei, a Peking university graduate and friend of the Singapore student involved, Wang Jing.

Liu claimed that Yu Wanli had duped Wang into a relationship by pretending to be single.

According to The Beijing News, Liu sent an e-mail and three letters to the university, with photographs and details of their chats obtained from Wang’s mobile phone.

On November 20, the university said Yu had been expelled from the Party after an initial investigation revealed an “improper” sexual relationship.

“The university always values teachers’ moral standards. We will never tolerate any violation of the teachers’ code of morality and will be sure to hand down severe punishments,” it said in a statement announcing Yu’s dismissal.

However, according to Liu, while the university’s action prevents Yu from teaching students it does not stop him from becoming a visiting scholar or human resources official.

“Yu may continue to take the advantage of the Peking University’s reputation to cheat other girls,” Liu said.

In an interview with Chinese Business View, Wang said that after she had joined Yu’s course at the School of International Studies the pair met at a number of social occasions and gradually became attracted to each other.

One afternoon, Yu visited her dorm and they had sex, although Wang claimed she had tried to resist. She thought he was single but, even after learning he was married, she said she decided to forgive him.

“He comforted me with honeyed words and I believed that I was his true and only love,” she said. “Also, he told me he had broken up with his wife about 10 years ago.”

Later, she said, Yu took nude photographs of her and used them as blackmail so she would continue the relationship. Yu also suggested they join a club where people swapped partners, she told the newspaper.

Wang said she decided to accept the situation because she feared for her reputation and her future. But she decided to speak out after Yu asked her to have an abortion.

Wang said she was planning to have the baby because doctors told her an abortion might leave her unable to have children in the future.
