Singapore is recognised as one of the safest cities in the world, with lower crime than many other comparable global cities.
This is because the police have done well in investigating and solving crime, especially serious crime, said Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean on Thursday morning.
'For example, of the 16 murders that took place in 2011, only one case remains to be solved. Police also solved 87 per cent of all housebreaking cases in 2011,' he said.
He added that there have been a number of occasions where the police cracked the cases and arrested the culprits within a short time, citing the ATM skimming case earlier this year.
