Spirit Level - New Year Resolution

One resolution that you should consider for this year is to read this book - The Spirit Level by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett. First in published in 2009. I am no going to steal the their thunder and tell you what it is all about but it brings home some powerful messages.

In countries like NZ and Australia, the figures in many of the charts are skewed unfavourably by those damned Maori and Abos.

I don't know much about the Nordic countries but if they don't have a dysfunctional dark skinned low IQ native population to contend with, they already have a distinct advantage.

I too was impressed with the Nordic countries and I could understand why despite their small size they do well across nearly all aspects of life. One of mankind's challenge is handling natives. It is a perennial challenge from North America to the Oceania. No country have solved this riddle. Even the Japanese struggle with them.

The concept of Terra Nullis and the need to work it is not in their mind. Political correctness has made it worse.

Thanks for the slides. I didnt think they tell us anything really new. A few things I did note:

1. Educational scores - Singapore should be up there but is missing
2. Homicidal rates - SGP even topped U.S. that must be an achievement of our govt.
3. Rates if imprisonment - ditto! I dont know if they counted political ones too!

I did not suggest the book when first I read it despite it making powerful statements via figures. Wanted to wait for counter arguments as at the time of launch as there was a fair bit noise. I came across the book again whilst last minute shopping for gifts. I then saw their updated edition and the responses to these arguments.

Would also pick up the book you suggested as it is always good to see both sides of the story.

Just as Buffet and Gates, as well as the Chinese tycoon did, people who made it want to reurn some to society. I already suspect there are a fair few here. I am extrapolating as i see the same conduct in real life where unassuming individuals that see the lighter side of things of things but help the needy. I know 2 in this forum that are doing just that.

If I have the time, I would start a Church of Reality and make both you Pastors of Redemption and begin work with City Harvest. There are a lot of souls to save.

I was wrong, you are right. I saw the wrong axis. S'pore is down at the median. I was also wrong about the imprisonment rate. S'pore is second to the U.S.

as people become more intelligent they care less for preachers and more for teachers . we must conduct research and then accept the results. If they don't stand up to experimentation, christanity own words must be rejected . history teaches us that no other cause has brought more death than the word of invisibleman ..

An income disparity is not always bad. The thing is to prevent the same group remaining the same disaffected group year after year after year. Income inequality should be a dynamic trend in a state of flux, so that there is upwards mobility.

Sometimes I just wonder if the scatter diagrams are done first and the best line fit drawn before looking for reasons/hypotheses to explain causes and effects. in that sense,, almost anything can be conflated to anything to spoof a theory.
