Malay students falling behind in O Level English

Fri, Dec 14, 2007
The Straits Times

MALAY students have fallen behind other races in academic performances, especially in O Level English, according to the Education Ministry's latest 10-year examinations report card released on Friday.

In 2006, 80.6 per cent of students passed the subject, down almost five per cent from 85.1 per cent in 2005.

The decline put a brake to almost 10 years of steady improvement in O level English by Malay students, since 1998 when just 58.2 per cent of them passed the subject.

But there have been steady improvements in the overall pass rate for English language, which exceeded 85 per cent.
The pass rates in Mother Tongue language and Mathematics for O level students have also risen to above 95 per cent and 85 per cent respectively.

The data on the performance of the major races in the three national exams - the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and the O and A levels - is released every year to provide feedback to the communities on how their children have fared.

At the A level, the overall percentage of students who obtained at least 2 A and 2 AO level passes, including General Paper, remained above 90 per cent.

For the PSLE, the overall proportion of students who passed remained above 95 per cent.

The Sinkie Malays should not spend their time masturbating on 911 and the Sinkie Chinese do likewise for Diaoyu islands.

Youth still form bulk of new drug abusers

Those aged between 20 and 29 still made up the the majority of new drug abusers arrested in the first six months of this year, said the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).

In its mid-year report released yesterday, CNB said that the group made up 52 per cent, or 281, of such arrests - a slight increase from the 277 arrested in the same period last year.

In 2010, the age group made up 39 per cent of all new drug abusers arrested for the whole year.

The number of new drug abusers in this age group has also been steadily climbing, from 276 for the whole of 2007, to 516 for the whole of 2010.

CNB attributed this growth to the liberal attitudes of the young towards drug abuse. The group may also be more "susceptible to the strong contaminating influence posed by experienced abusers".

CNB said arrests for those aged below 20 declined in the first half of the year by 44.7 per cent, from 132 to 73.

While more illegal drugs were seized in the first half - about S$9.3 million worth, compared to S$7.8 million in the same period last year - the total number of drug abusers as well as new abusers arrested fell slightly.

A total of 1,712 drug abusers was nabbed in the first half of the year, down 2.5 per cent from 1,756 in the same period last year. The total number of new drug abusers arrested also fell 9.4 per cent, from 593 to 537.

In the report, CNB highlighted that heroin and methamphetamine, or "Ice", continue to be the two most commonly abused drugs. Abusers of these drugs formed 93 per cent of the total number of drug abusers arrested in the first half of the year.

Of the new abusers arrested in the first half of the year, 87.7 per cent abused either of the two drugs.

Ice has been increasing in popularity because of a misconception that it is less addictive than other drugs such as heroin, said CNB.
The report also said that the number of inhalant abusers arrested dropped to 60 in the first half of this year, from 95 in the same period last year.

The amount of Ice seized saw a big jump of 137 per cent, hitting about 9.5kg in the first half of this year, compared to 4kg in the same period last year.

There was a 465 per cent rise in the seizure of Subutex, from 23 tablets to 130 tablets. The number of Chinese and Indian drug abusers arrested fell by 14.9 per cent and 6.4 per cent, respectively, in the first half of this year, compared to the same period last year.

Conversely, the number of Malay drug abusers arrested increased by 6.8 per cent, from 839 to 896.

While 30 major operations were conducted in the first half of this year, CNB said the drug situation "remains challenging", against the backdrop of increasing drug seizures, a worsening regional drug situation and as many as 2,000 repeat drug abusers expected to be released this year and next year.

Separately, 43 drug offenders were nabbed in two joint operations involving CNB and the police on Tuesday and Wednesday.
About 195g of cannabis and two straws of heroin - weighing a total of about 1g - were seized in the first operation, while about 80g of heroin and 18g of Ice were seized in the second operation.

There is an old saying that the Malays will eagerly pawn their sarongs just to have money to buy durians to eat.
Very old grand-father's saying. Some of you must have heard that before.

There's a new saying that the Chinese will sell their mothers if the price is right.

Very true and when either mother or gf is drowning, the Chinese will save the gf. Proven to be true recently.

Well, at least they're more gifted in footballing skills. They can dribble, pass and shoot like no other Chinese, Indian or Eurasian can.

If they work hard, one day we can see a Singaporean Malay footballer in Barcelona, Juventus or Manchester United.

I wonder if it's acceptable to insult the Pinoys on facebook?

Mats are lazy more than dumb.

They keep saying God willing everything will be better.

But instead of moving their butt and do something about it.

They just sit around and pray five times per day.

That is why they are at the lowest levels of Human development Index.

Politically not important. Not part of Singapore's social fabric yet. If Amy Cheong made similar deep cutting and racist comments about the pinoys, it would not have gone viral and if by fluke it did, NTUC and the rest of Singapore would not have bothered.

It is something that some in this forum cannot grasp.

The fact that NTUC of all people is hiring a foreign national for a senior post only seemed to have caught the attention of a chap in far flung NZ is quite disturbing.

I think the the "lowest level" title should go to the Chinese as they're closest to the animal species.

The evidence is here.

Man thats like saying a big 'FUCK YOU' on mainstream media

they're pigs and party animals. my pinoy neighbor across the cul de sac would roast a whole pig every month and invite the whole pinoy village to eat. they would park their cars and trucks on every inch in the neighborhood. little do they know or care that right next to them is a paki family, and they are devout muslims. the smoke from roast pig would engulf their house. i could see them planning a jihad. instead, they moved away and rented the house out to rednecks. anything can irk a paki, but nothing will stir a pinoy until he's deprived of roasted crunchy porkskin.

I love your neighbourhood, its pretty much a gunpowder keg waiting for a spark :D

Malay and Tagalog have common linguistic ancestry.

Malay word for pig is 'babi', Tagalog word for pig is 'baboy'.

Can incite both groups to confront each other.
Then sit back, relax, grab some popcorn and beer, and enjoy the show.
