Now that is the reason why singapore never has and never will produce world beaters. From sports to the arts to technology (okay maybe sim wong hoo had his 15 minutes of fame). We are just too practical when it comes to career choices.
When there is no passion in what you do, there is only mediocrity. The best work you ever do is the work you are willing to die for.

that's the according to the classic principal-agency theory. Look at Pap and temasek. The only thing they are beating now is the man on the steet. Another example is wall street. But this was not the point i was trying to make.
I believe when choosing a career, we must look beyond the pay out today, but more like 5 years down the road. I will tell any of my juniors to upgrade him/herself to catch the next trend. Be a trial blazer in the emerging field. Unfortunately, not many young people have the patience and risk appetite for that. They are probably saving as much as they can for a condo, gym membership and other offerings of a yuppie lifestyle.
