UAE accommodation covered as Middle East airspace remains closed​

Stressed travelers stranded in Dubai will have their hotel costs paid by authorities, according to guests and state media.

CNN previously reported that Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism would cover costs in that city for tens of thousands of travelers stranded during the conflict in the Middle East.

It’s some consolation for thousands of travelers stuck in the major transport hubs due to airspace closures that show no sign of ending soon.

Thousands of flights have been canceled since the US and Israel attacked Iran on Saturday, prompting retaliatory strikes on hubs and gulf states that host US military bases.

Travelers are urged to contact their airlines and stay across alerts from their country of origin.

Some countries are considering plans to repatriate their citizens. Others are waiting to see if there’s a faster chance of commercial flights resuming.

IDF says it's killed senior Iranian intelligence officials​

In a new statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says it's killed Sayed Yahya Hamidi, the deputy minister of intelligence for Israel affairs.

Jalal Pour Hossein, head of the espionage division at the ministry of intelligence, was also killed, along with other "regime officials", it says.

It does not detail how, when or where they were killed.

It also adds that Iran's ministry of intelligence headquarters in Tehran was struck "a short while ago".

Saudi says fire at state oil refinery under control after drones intercepted​

Saudia Arabia's energy ministry says a "limited fire" at the Ras Tanura refinery - which is run by the country's state oil company, Aramaco - has been brought under control.

The statement - shared by the Saudi Press Agency - says the refinery sustained "minor damage from falling debris" due to the interception of "two drones in the refinery's vicinity". It adds that the fire was "immediately dealt with" by emergency services, with no injuries or fatalities.

Video verified by the BBC shows a fire and large plumes of smoke billowing from the refinery.

Saudia Arabia has long hosted US and western military forces, and on Saturday its government issued a statement condemning "blatant and cowardly Iranian attacks".

These attacks were "successfully intercepted" and targeted the Riyadh Region and Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia said.

Qatar warns ‘a price has to be paid’ for Iranian strikes​

Qatar “reserves the right to retaliate” against Iran after its “blatant attack” on Qatar’s people, foreign ministry spokesperson Majid al-Ansari said, adding that Iranian strikes “cannot go unanswered” and that “a price has to be paid.”

Doha is not in contact with Iran’s government as it focuses on defending the country and protecting key infrastructure, al-Ansari told CNN’s Becky Anderson on Monday.

“As of this moment, we are not engaging with government. We are busy, as you might imagine, defending our country,” he said.

He added that Qatar has faced “more than 100 missiles and scores of drones,” and said the strikes were “targeting also civilian and commercial infrastructure.”

Asked about the risk to Gulf energy facilities after Saudi Arabia intercepted drones near an oil refinery, al-Ansari said Qatar was “gravely concerned” by attacks on non-military targets across the region. He said Qatar’s military has taken precautions to defend onshore and offshore economic facilities while Gulf leaders coordinate closely with each other and the United States.

Qatar is one of the world’s biggest gas exporters.

Iran's actions in the region represent a "dangerous escalation", which threatens stability in the Middle East, a joint statement from the US and six allied Gulf states says.

"Targeting civilians and non-combatant states is reckless behaviour that undermines stability," the statement - shared by Kuwait's foreign ministry - reads.

The statement - published originally in Arabic - was issued jointly by Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, the UAE and the US.

They say they "reaffirm our right to self-defence" as apparent Iranian strikes around the region continue.

It says attacks have taken place in Bahrain, Iraq (including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq), Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Three US fighter jets accidentally shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses, CENTCOM says​

Three US fighter jets went down “due to an apparent friendly fire incident,” US Central Command has announced.

Kuwaiti air defenses accidentally shot the F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets down late Monday evening ET time.

“During active combat—that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones — the U.S. Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses,” the statement said. “All six aircrew ejected safely, have been safely recovered, and are in stable condition. Kuwait has acknowledged this incident, and we are grateful for the efforts of the Kuwaiti defense forces and their support in this ongoing operation.”

The cause of the incident is under investigation, according to CENTCOM. The jets were flying in support of the military operation against Iran, dubbed Operation Epic Fury.

Kuwait’s Minister of Defense said in the early hours of Monday morning that “several” US fighter jets crashed.

Now, a Cypriot government spokesperson says two drones heading towards RAF Akrotiri have been intercepted.

This comes after an Iranian drone crashed into the UK military base last night, "causing minor material damage".

QatarEnergy stops production of LNG following drone attack​

Qatar’s state-run energy company QatarEnergy has stopped its production of liquified natural gas following an Iranian attack on its facility in Ras Laffan on Monday, the company said in a statement shared with CNN.

The energy facility was targeted by an Iranian drone on Monday alongside another power facility in Mesaieed, south of Doha.

Qatar’s Ministry of Defence saying investigations are ongoing into the extent of the damage.

Qatar is one of the world’s largest LNG exporters, accounting for roughly 20% of global exports, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

Today’s rare Pentagon news conference is the first in several months​

When Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine brief reporters today, it will not only mark the first time top members of the Trump administration speak publicly about “Operation Epic Fury,” but also the first time officials have spoken formally on camera at the Pentagon in several months.

The last Pentagon press briefing was exactly three months ago, on December 2, when Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson fielded questions from a select group of primarily right-wing reporters whose outlets agreed to the Pentagon’s new press policy, which severely limits press access.

Hegseth and Caine haven’t held a news conference at the Pentagon since last June, when the officials detailed previous US strikes against Iran on three key nuclear facilities.

In January, the two officials spoke alongside President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, but that news conference took place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club.

The number of news conferences thus far is well below prior administrations, which regularly addressed questions from the press.

Trump gave the Iran operation order on Friday afternoon, Gen. Caine says​

General Dan Caine offered a detailed timeline of the operation, including the message Central Command received from President Trump as he gave the final go-ahead.

“At 15:38, 3:38pm, on Friday, February 27, the United States Central Command, through the Secretary of War, received the final go from President Trump,” Caine said.

“The president directed, and I quote, ‘Operation Epic Fury is approved. No aborts. Good luck. Close.’”

That timeline would put Trump aboard Air Force One, en route to Texas, when he delivered the order. Trump landed in Corpus Christi, Texas, at 3:50 p.m. ET.

In his speech later that day, Trump suggested his mind wasn’t fully made up.

“We have a big decision to make,” he told a crowd in Corpus Christi, where he was promoting his energy agenda. He said the decision was “not easy,” and said Iran had long been engaged in malign behavior
