Some Singaporeans turn to vans as car prices soar

i hate diesel engine car, the whole interior smell of diesel, the whole car vibrate too much, in gear 1 you cannot rev the engine like petrol car, i drove the diesel car before, and i hate every moment of it. Other than the fact you do not go to gas station too often, i hate diesel.

Vans have another hidden purpose - easier to just do it inside, compared to cars. More spacious.

Yeah, and we can even save on the newspapers to be pasted on the car windows, used to prevent people outside from seeing our bare butts on every upstroke. :D

I wonder how long before someone decides to use them to run a pirate taxi service:confused:

You can even get a friend to give a massage while u drive the taxi.
You can call it Relaxi Taxi. :o

This idea is from Phoebe Buffay and Rachel Green. :D

Agree. And don't forget must be equipped with wet tissues coz if confronted with a real smelly ccb on a rainy night, mission can continue. Otherwise how to run away when it is raining heavily outside and you can down the windows. Can suffocate like that and police wrongly classify case as suicide.

Bro, if confronted with a real smelly ccb, don't think the wet tissues are gonna help. :o :D

Hmm, a better idea is to find a parking spot in Geylang & rent the van out by the hour. What people do in that hour is their bizness :o

Ok, if really smelly smelly cb, may need something more than wet tissue. In most cases, wet tissues aid in ensuring a no-smell cb to paint.

Sidetrack abit, how cone those modified MPVs a la HK gangsters favorite never catch on here

You're 20 years out of date. Diesels are not what they used to be. Google for more info.

This is sinkie's version of adaptation....

Fresh meat too expensive they tell you to eat frozen meat.
Rice too expensive they tell you to eat cheaper low quality rice.
Veggies too expensive they tell you eat taogay.

healthcare is expensive they told you go JB ...;)

in that case, i also can get a luxury car or sports car?:D
but does the vehicle really run for the business?:D

Company no income. So where to deduct the car usage cost in company income tax. In the end the money still come from your own pocket. So gov have nothing to lose.
Register company need to do yearly AGM and accounting cost. This will be few hundred $ if ZERO company income.
Insurance for company car is more expensive. And also cannot drive to Malaysia. If want to use in Malaysia need to pay Malaysia Road tax(need to register with Malaysia JPJ).

could also be that harvey norman, courts, ikea etc are having roaring sales of sofa sets:D

that rubbish, diesels car are still same shit now as a few years ago.
unless you are talking about luxury car diesel, those i never tried before, no money. Talking about mainstream passenger car diesel car, recently i drove a new one, same shit as before.
The sound of petrol car rev at first gear, music to my ear. The sound of diesel at gear 1, worse nightmare.

I saw a sofa set on back of a van before. If kena caught just said that delivery. Just dont mount it on the van.

It's good and practical. If cars are too expensive for them, they drive vans.

Vans are for sure safer than motorcycles also.

Cut cost is the key. And these are hard times for most people, so they really gotta tighten their belts and stay resilient.

I have lost touched with cost of cars in Singapore until now and I am in utter shock. There is no reason to pay so much for four wheels for convenience. I now wonder how Singaporeans survive in Singapore I mean my own family members too.

Some of you here kept asking Sinkies to leave Sinkieland but then I believe its easier said than done. I mean I am one of the lucky ones like some of you here who have a business or work in another country. It is not easy for anyone to say leave and just leave if no work can be found. However I also want to say some of you Sinkies sometimes must look beyond "confort" and take a plunge. Be daring I mean and sometimes must be crazy and start to look beyond Singapore.

Understand vans and pickups (those G plate) cannot enter Malaysia and also has a speed limit of 60 or 70KM/hr. So much restrictions and yet, peasants rather downgrade from cars to vans just to get a 4 wheel and live with the inconvenience.

SG East to West at most 50 km and North to South, probably 30 km, taxis should be able to cover this area and much cheaper.

But nothing beats taxi in terms of shittiness. Smelly interior, annoyingly chatty driver with no substance, jerky driving, engine sounds like truck, driver continually asking you for directions... ghoshh what a world class transport
