According to SMRT, their station staff had immediately reversed one of the entry gates to exit mode to facilitate passenger flow, while the spoilt exit gates were being repaired by their technician. Four of the exit gates had broken down due to a software glitch that day (July 8).
This is in response to an earlier article on July 8 where STOMPer Engineer witnessed a jam caused by commuters waiting to use the other few gantries that were working.
The spokesperson for SMRT said:
"We are sorry to learn of STOMPer Engineer’s experience at Ang Mo Kio MRT Station.
"On 8 July, at around 4.20pm, four exit gates at Ang Mo Kio station were not working due to a software glitch. To facilitate passenger flow, our station staff immediately reversed one of the entry gates to exit mode, while the gates were being repaired by our technician.
"As a result of the complication, passengers had to queue up and wait slightly longer to exit through the fare gate. Each wait was less than two minutes.
"The gates began functioning normally again at 8.20pm the same day.
"We apologise for the inconvenience caused."
