you are wrong......

1) 1 dinar (Kuwait) = USD$3.56
2) 1 dinar (Bahrain) = USD$2.65
3) 1 rial (Oman) = USD$2.60
4) 1 lats (Latvia) = USD$1.79
5) 1 pound (United Kingdom) = USD$1.54

:D:D:D:D:D:D

BUT

which are the currencies which carries the highest denominations? Because if you need to carry around a million bucks in USD, which currency allows you to carry them in the "lightest" way by the fewest notes....

That's my question......

What's most important is your net worth lah. You could have a currency that allowed you to exchange for 10 USD with 1 unit but if you had very few of this currency, you would still be a poor pauper. Does anybody here seriously think the Japanese are poorer than Latvians just because the value of the Yen is damn low?

Yes $10k note SG is the biggest value in single note or paper.

This thread is truly insightful. The marvel of learning from an online forum is just too fascinating. Of course, some nasty people might say this thread is useless as there are FX websites such as http://www.xe.com/ for learning about exchange rates.

What Scrooball and Cruxx is hinting is that one does not use number of units against USD or any other base currency to determine value. The number of can be arbitraly set by the country. As in HK which is pegged against USD as well as the Chinese currency which is not free floating.

The value of a currency vs other currency is its ability to buy more of the same goods. This where the purchasing power parity comes into play. Big Mac is a known proxy.

For examples if all currencies are converted into USD, lets see much does a Big Mac costs in each of these countries

Swizerland - $ 6.81USD
UK - $3.82USD
Singapore - $3.72USD
Malaysia - $2.34USD
HK - $2.12USD

From the above, you can see that HK dollars is most valuable in buying a big mac compared to the swiss where it costs 3 times more. Its also explains why Singaporans are buying properties in Johor and staying there. You get more for your buck. That is why HKers left. Also explains why only diplomats and supra national organisations have their offices in Geneva and Bern but not commercial companies who would not be able to,pay their expats enough to come over.
