Snatch thief arrested in 3 hours

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 49-year-old man who is believed to have attempted to snatch a teenager's mobile phone.
An 18-year-old girl was walking along Jurong West Ave 5 on Thursday 2pm when he approached her from behind and tried to snatch her mobile phone from her hands. The teenager put up a struggle and the man fled empty-handed.
Police managed to track down the suspect and arrested him at Jurong West St 65 at about 5 pm on the same day, within 3 hours of the report.
He will be charged in Court for the offence of Attempted Use of Criminal Force to commit Theft under Section 356 read with Section 511 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the suspect faces a maximum jail term of 7 years and shall also be liable to caning.
