Doing things right would actually mean shutting down both EW and NS line for at least a week and check for cracks along the rails, after which any rails with cracks should he replaced en masse
 
there is a permanent spare rail placed beside the operating rail and probably for use during maintenance when they inspected the running rail has a crack

That's the old damaged rail changed out at night they leave it at the side of the track next day then return to clear
