SINGAPORE - SMRT's chief operations officer for rail Alvin Kek was arrested for drink driving at Woodlands Checkpoint on Saturday morning (April 21), The Straits Times understands.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, the police said they arrested a 50-year-old man for drink driving at Woodlands Checkpoint at about 5am on Saturday, without giving further details.

SMRT's vice-president for corporate communications Margaret Teo said: "This matter is currently under police investigation. It is not appropriate for the company to comment as it concerns a personal matter. We request that the privacy of our staff, especially under the circumstances of his recent bereavement, be respected."

The Straits Times understands that Mr Kek's father died recently.

Mr Kek joined SMRT in 2013.

SMRT announced his appointment as chief operations officer (rail) on Feb 1, saying that he would oversee operations for the North-South and East-West Lines, the Circle Line and the Bukit Panjang LRT system.

Prior to his employment at SMRT, Mr Kek spent 14 years with the Singapore Armed Forces, where he was a colonel and a chief engineering officer.

Police investigations are ongoing.

A colonel made an honest mistake because his father died recently. Let's be more understanding and move on. There's oppies to catch.

Will there b a google search to find out why sinkie military retiree team got such deep shit culture?

This would not have happened if he relied on public transport

did he drown himself in sorrow for not getting coveted ceo job? colonels can't be generals. :p

I doubt so. Colonels know their lot in life. They are not allowed to outrank generals. I only worry when BGs outrank MGs and LGs. They may be very disgruntled. Imagine if an LG becomes the CEO of transport, but has to answer to the CEO of LTA or a minister, who might only be a BG rank.

The only exception is Chun Sing. He is adaptable and is completely loyal to our BG Lee.

His father recently passed away and he went to JB to celebrate until 5am...very filial son like Pinky.

He could have waited for the Sin - JB MRT to be completed before going in to drink right? Moreover he would have travelled for free.

He didn't ask the CISCO guard, "DO YOU KNOW WHO AM I!!??"

Has got that typical hum sup look. Totally deprioved people who act innocent and go JB to bonk Vietnamese pussies. Many of the PAP cadres and grasslooters and yes of course the MPs, are exactly these type. Fit this typical profile. They are angels until they get caught. Must have told his wife he is going to inspect the signal faults at the North / South MRT tracks.

pretty sure no driving
ban, cursory fine $1000 at most
