if everything the CEO must do, then who lead the company?!?

Bear in mind that he was recently appointed. Anyway, it's ok for him to go on leave, just that he better not be like the other Goondu (not you lah) who went for French cooking lessons and said that if you have a competent 2 i/c, it's hunky-dory - little realising that the buck starts and stops with him.

Good thing he is heading SMRT now. Can you imagine SAF has started fighting in the frontlines, and the general is nowhere to be found?

CEO of SMRT missing in action!!!!

The bus drivers strike ...the first since the 1960s, public transport ground to a halt, thousands affected....big screw-ups in the way salaries and accommodations were handled....and where is the CEO of SMRT in all this????? This is worse than the BP oil rig explosion a few years back where the CEO went sailing...at least he did something. This SMRT CEO went on leave throughout this crisis.....

This strike shows that the SMRT CEO is expendable.Whether he is in singapore or overseas make no difference. In short,he is cho-bo-lan same as the minister without portfolio. But why are they paying multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses to cho-bo-lan ?

SMRT CEO makes appearance at Serangoon dorm

By derrick ho

FOR the first time since more than a hundred Chinese bus drivers went on strike on Monday and Tuesday, SMRT chief executive Desmond Kuek made an appearance today at the Serangoon dormitory which houses some of them and spoke to his employees.
He had been on leave since the strike earlier this week.
He arrived at the dorm with about six SMRT executives in a cab at 1pm and spent half an hour inside, speaking to some drivers who were there.
One driver said he was there to understand the conditions of the dorm.

Scholars in the SAF who are later made generals are all well-trained in one aspect of life as a soldier. It is to TAKE COVER when faced with an imminent threat. Doesn't matter whether the imminent threat is real or perceived.

I knew it....the cover up of the case is that the PRC drivers are not just complaining about the disparity of the pay....they knew they will be paid less than the Malaysians, because of accommodation package. They're looking to SMRT to upgrade their dorm to HDB.

Went there with SIX executives in a CAB?
And left without making some comments and how he sees things going forward?
Ah well, I suppose when you come from the military, you are used to shouting "JUMP" and they ask "how high har".
He is out of his depth, me thinks.

SINGAPORE: Newly-appointed SMRT CEO Desmond Kuek on Friday visited some China bus drivers at their living quarters at Serangoon dormitory.

Mr Kuek, who was accompanied by members of SMRT's management team and newly-appointed liaison officers, spent about an hour speaking to China workers living there.

He toured the dormitory to check out the housekeeping arrangements.

The bus drivers also provided suggestions on improvements that can be made.

The workers had complained about cramped and unsanitary living arrangements.

SMRT has said that it is working on improving the living conditions, including repair works and carrying out fumigation.

On Monday, 171 bus drivers from China staged an illegal strike by refusing to turn up for work. On Tuesday, 88 of them continued with the illegal strike. Four of the drivers were charged in court on Thursday with instigating the strike.
