Six youths arrested for housebreaking

SINGAPORE: Six youths, including a nine-year-old girl, have been arrested for breaking into a provision shop at Holland Close. They were nabbed seven hours after the shop owner filed a police report.

Police said the suspects, three boys and three girls, aged 9 to 17, were arrested on Sunday afternoon, June 24.

The 51-year-old victim told the police at around 12 noon that his provision shop had been broken into and S$1,800 in cash were missing.

Police officers established the identity of the first suspect, a 12-year-old girl, after looking through CCTV footage from the shop. She was arrested in Commonwealth Crescent at about 4.40pm.

The five other suspects were rounded up in the same neighbourhood nearly two hours later, at 6.20pm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that three of the suspects entered the provision shop from a rear door with stolen keys, while the rest acted as lookouts. Investigations are ongoing.

Police have arrested three males and three females, aged between 9 and 17 years, who are believed to have broken into a provision shop located at Holland Close.

The 51-year-old victim reported the housebreaking on the afternoon of June 24. Cash amounting to about $1,800 was found missing.

With the aid of CCTV's footage obtained from the shop, the officers managed to establish the identity of the first suspect, a 12-year-old female, and placed her under arrest.

Through follow up investigations, her five other accomplices were also arrested in the vicinity of Commonwealth Crescent.

The three suspects were believed to have gained entry into the provision shop via the rear door with stolen keys while the rest of the suspects acted as lookouts.

Investigations are still ongoing.

Anyone convicted of housebreaking and theft by night with common intention faces a jail term which may extend to 14 years.
