I AM writing in about SingPost's tardy postal services. On May 17, a parcel was sent to me from the United States. As it was sent by priority international mail, I expected delivery within seven to 10 days.
On May 26, when I tracked the parcel online, it was being "held at Customs/Control Agency" in Singapore. After a week of waiting, the parcel status online still reflected the same thing.
When I called SingPost, a customer service officer redirected me to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority. ICA checked and said the parcel was no longer with them.
I called SingPost the second time, and I was about to be redirected again when I told them I had already checked with ICA. The SingPost officer then checked and informed me that I had to sign a letter to authorise it to clear Customs for me. Furthermore, I had to pay a fee of $15.
This authorisation letter was to have reached me by post or by delivery, but there was none until I called up to check.
Why did I not receive any notification that the parcel had arrived in Singapore and that I had to sign an authorisation letter? Why do I have to pay $15 for SingPost to clear Customs?
I hope SingPost improves on its service to its customers. After all, postage is paid to ensure items are delivered into the hands of the recipient, and not for the item to be held at Customs indefinitely with no word to the recipient.
