The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) has slapped a $10,000 penalty on SingPost for failure to deliver about 40,000 letters on time in February this year.
IDA found that SingPost did not deliver the local letters by the second working day, according to the postal framework.
This is SingPost’s largest fine and its first since stricter penalties kicked in last July.
IDA said SingPost had failed to explain the cause of the delivery lapse.
A SingPost spokesman would only say that it only fell a “fraction” short on one of the seven quality of service standards imposed by IDA.
SingPost’s compliance is determined by a sample-letter test conducted monthly by an independent third party. Before July last year, the test was done in-house by SingPost itself.
There has been a rise in the number of complaints about lost or wrongly delivered mail by the public.
This April, a women’s fashion boutique owner, Ms Lee Qianni, complained that SingPost misdelivered a 30kg parcel of mechandise worth almost $5,000 to her competitor’s shop instead of to her at Far East Plaza (‘SingPost delivers $5K worth of parcel to wrong party‘). The competitor who signed for the parcel by mistake had sold off some of the mechandise by the time the mistake was discovered.
The deliveryman from SingPost’s third-party service partner Riverwood accidentally went to the wrong floor. When SingPost was alerted to the blunder, it offered Ms Lee $20 worth of vouchers as “goodwill”. Understandably, Ms Lee was offended by the gesture.
SingPost is currently run by a foreign talent, Dr Wolfgang Baier. He was appointed Group CEO and Board Director on 5 October 2011. Before joining SingPost, he was with McKinsey Consulting, helping SingPost to restructure its operations. Somehow, he ended up from consulting for SingPost to becoming its CEO. According to BusinessWeek data, his total compensation package is $1,668,300 for FY2013 [Link].
SingPost’s revenue was about $700 million in its latest fiscal year ending 31 March. Its market capitalization is $2.5 billion.

LOL. What good will a fine do? Left pocket gives money to right pocket. Nothing is going to improve.

Those of you who bought SingPost shares, fuck you too. You're part of the problem.

The post office counters have 5 counters, 3 are opened, one attending to parcel,s collection & receiving, as well as retrieving of registered article, one counter is express, that is for payment of PUB fees, TELCOS Bills etc., that leaves two; express lane opens 11am, lunch at 2.

Part timer starts work at 2pm open 1 counter, but it is still 3 as above...counters 1 & 2 attends to WESTERN UNION remittances, other miscellaneous things, like a person sending facsimile, your wait around 20 minutes. SAM machine is not working, the queue curls like a snake.

The person at the counter will want to sell you candies, chocolates, bird nest , essence of chicken...anything almost everything but condoms!, in the past three counters, 1 counter will have only machine for ezlnk or VISA, ok now they have at every counter ( the merchants terminals that is). One Post Office, they have only one printer, for 5 counters...

If one or two staff on emergency, sick leave..gourd helps you!, only on certain days of the month...& on days on "do you feel lucky"...the Post office is empty, one counter open is not a problem...

This is world class Post Office...the user of the Post office, should be fined for using counter service..sic!!

Yes. Very true.

My neighbour at one time work as daily rated worker with SingPost. Got all those basic benefits like Leave, medical etc etc. Few yrs back, Singpost outsource it to another manpower agency. Latter re-employed my neighbour. But his daily salary much lesser than when he was a employee with Singpost. As for usual benefits, hmm........

Is your Neighbor the "guess which race type"?? if yes!...I noticed some years back they replaced the counter staff with "pinoys" & farmed out the "guess which race"?!..of late they employed them again, the original type of people that used to work for the P.O.

By nature, these people are of a "relax' nature...so, if you are in the queue of 15 persons, you are the last..."relac lah, bruther & sister!" 2counters open...they need to go toilet or time to eat..." relac lah!"...
