SINGAPORE - A fight broke out in a crowd gathered at Pacific Plaza on Friday morning (Feb 23) for the launch of a new Adidas apparel and footwear collection made in collaboration with American singer Pharrell Williams.

A video of the incident was posted on digital media brand The Playbook's Facebook page. It shows some men pushing and shouting at each other.

The Straits Times understands that the dispute occurred at around 8.20am when someone tried to cut the queue.

According to Adidas' Facebook page, queueing for the Adidas by Pharrell Williams - Hu Holi Blank Canvas collection was set to begin at 8am at the Adidas Originals store at Pacific Plaza.

Sale of the apparel and footwear, which was limited to one piece and one pair per customer respectively, opened only two hours later at 10am.

Prices of the products ranged from $230 to $380.

ST understands that police officers responded to the scene after the fight broke out, but it was ultimately contained by security officers at the mall in Scotts Road.

No injuries were reported.

A spokesman for Adidas told ST that the public's safety is of "utmost importance to the brand".

"We have checked with the parties involved and can confirm the safety of our fans and the public," he said. "We are still investigating the matter and are in the midst of reviewing processes to ensure our fans are able to continue to ballot for our limited-edition products in a fair way with as little inconvenience as possible."

In November 2016, disgruntled customers complained about the chaotic crowd at Pacific Plaza for a limited edition collection of Adidas shoes made in collaboration with Bathing Ape.

In November last year, a man was charged for allegedly punching another man while queueing for Adidas shoes at a launch in Kuala Lumpur, the New Straits Times reported.

Such infantile behaviour. Besides, what is wrong with a magnificent pair of Panther sneakers?

Most queue up to buy and later flip on the net for a tidy profit.

Most of these shoes will end up with collectors and never be worn
