Korean boy band fans in tears as organisers make a mess of event
A man with a loudhailer turned orderly queues of fans into a chaotic mess by directing them to join another queue. His announcement triggered a mad rush of fans across a road, heedless of traffic.
STOMPer Straw relates:
"I was in the queue for Korean boy band BEAST's meet the fans session. I am one of their fans, and was there the night before to write down my name for the queue.
"Even though there was supposed to be no overnight queuing allowed, fans would queue to get a nearer and clearer view of their favourite boys, right? Everything was in order, as the queuing girls took the initiative to keep track of queue numbers.
"Then a man with a loudhailer screamed and said that the official queue was on the opposite side of the road! Of course, everyone dashed across to join that queue and be at the front. Some fans ran to and fro across the road as the instructions had not been clear. Some were crying so hard as their queue had been cut, even though they had been there since the night before.
"Some of us fans talked to the event planner (a guy in a singlet). All I can say is that the event planner does not know how to plan things at all. His announcement over the loud hailer turned a calm orderly situation into a chaos. Queues were everywhere, including on levels three and four of IMM.
"All he did was ignore what fans had to say and did things his way, making fans unhappy and turning an organised queue into a chaotic one!
"All security could do was to stand there and look after traffic when fans in the queue were suffocating.
"The BEAST boys could only see the great turnout from the stage, and get the false impression the organising company was doing a good job. But would they really know what happened behind the scenes? This did not happen only for this session, it was similarly chaotic for the showcase they had at Mediacorp too.
"Even though the event ended fairly well, I seriously hope the organising company can look into what the had done wrong and made improvements on them."
