SINGAPORE — Three Britons have been charged for gang raping a woman when they were in Singapore for a music festival last month.
Khong Tam Thanh, 21, Le Michael, 23, and Vu Thai Son, 23, face one count each of raping a 23-year-old Singaporean woman at Carlton Hotel in the early hours of Sept 10.
The men were charged with the offences on Sept 12 and have been held for investigations and a psychiatric review. They appeared via video-link from Changi Prison on Thursday (Oct 6) and were offered bail of S$50,000 each.
All were represented by lawyers in court. Khong’s lawyer Shashi Nathan told AFP that his client, a London-based businessman in the beauty industry, was in town for Ultra Singapore, an electronic music festival.
Mr Nathan also said Khong had a bailor and was expecting to be released after proceedings are completed. Le and Vu’s lawyers said in court that their clients had trouble raising funds, and asked that bail be lowered, but the request was turned down.
If convicted of rape, the men can jailed up to 20 years and caned. The men will next appear before the court on Nov 22. AFP
