It is a perennial source of pride for the patriotic gongkias.

Such articles always gives them an orgasm:

Singapore's passport remains most powerful in the world, tied with Japan's (2019)
https://www.straitstimes.com/singap...worlds-most-powerful-passport-tied-with-japan

The dumb state-controlled press thinks it is such a great achievement that SG has the most powerful passport in the world.
When a passport is powerful, it will be coveted by the underworld (the money launderers, the drug traffickers, the human smugglers, criminals).
Chances of the passport being forged are high.
Why would any government or press be orgasmic about too high a ranking?

Anyone wondered why our passport outer cover is bright red? I would much prefer black with gold fonts.

Instead of being #1 in passport ranking, the govt should aim to be #1 in:
- Citizens' work-life balance: job security, satisfaction and happiness
- Government governance: transparency, democracy, accountability, salary transparencies at govt-owned corporations like GIC and Temasek
- Corporate governance: no cronyism, no nepotism, no parachuting in of retired SAF generals,

Don't expect this from a totalitarian shithole held hostage by a familee. Refer to Taiwan under the Chiangs.

The very idea of "most powerful passport" is a misnomer in the first place. All that this agency does is to sum up the number of visa free or visa on arrival countries each passport is entitled to and sort it from the most to the least. That is a very narrow definition of "powerful" and I doubt that's what most layman will relate to with the word either.

A more sensible definition of powerful is perhaps more along the lines of what foreign support the passport can provide you in the event you have an issue in foreign land. This is tied to a nation's global influence, the number and quality of missions it has overseas and also the efficiency of its foreign support organs.

There is no indication Singapore comes up tops in any of these categories. Singapore media simply parrots this "most powerful" nonsense in big bold headlines constantly to try and convince everyone we are very powerful in global affairs.

Also, how lucky Sinkies are, better be grateful and count your blessings, and remember to vote for PAP etc.

The 158th ranking wasn't given without good reason.
