With the entry of Amazon's Prime Video service, Singaporeans now have a big choice of online videos on demand.

From the consumers' point of view, this is advantageous because they are able to pick according to their needs and stretch their dollar.

However, this means that original local media content like documentaries and dramas may face more competition.


I hope the Singapore Government can provide critical guidance and funding to ensure that local media content reaches local residents.

This will ensure that Singapore's media and art industry can still be relevant for future generations.

Mediacorp have been getting all the funding from government by doing public service broadcast. This means they are more of a messenger to spread pap propaganda.

Without the money from them, mediacorp wouldn't be able to survive on it own.

Colon has been living in an alternate reality. Amazon Prime has been around for years. And you can't access Prime Videos unless you have a USA IP (which can be provided by a VPN service, for example).

As for Mediacorp, we are over a decade into its decline in popularity and viewership, and yes, this despite govt funding.

Why don't we start funding and supporting local sporting talent instead of worrying about a failed media propaganda tool?

It's actually a good idea.

Mediacorp should shoot their drama series in seasons like GoT. They could fill it with intrigue, violence and definitely lots of nudity from both male and female artistes. Ratings go up, renew the series for another couple of seasons. Lots of sinkies are sexually repressed. If nudity was featured more often in our mainstream media, viewership would go up and our mediacorp artistes could actually aspire to be real stars.

I've actually lived through most of those 50years in Spore. Some might even say that it was the golden years of Spore. In those days LKY wasn't so greedy or rather he didn't have complete power. Sporeans had jobs then & it was difficult for foreigners to work in Spore.

Had a relative who married a female foreigner & when she was expecting a child, the authorities wouldn't extend her stay permit until she signed a document stating that she wouldn't claim Spore citiznship for the child She was already a citizen of a 1st world country & had no intentions of claiming Sporean citizenship for the child
