SINGAPORE - A 29-year-old man who murdered his girlfriend's nine-month-old son by pushing the baby's head against the floorboard of his van was sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane on Thursday (Aug 11).

Mohamed Aliff Mohamed Yusoff was convicted of murder last month after the High Court rejected his claim that the baby, Izz Fayyaz Zayani Ahmad, had hit his head after accidentally falling from the accused's right arm.

The incident took place between 10pm on Nov 7, 2019 and 12.15am on Nov 8, 2019 in a carpark in Yishun Street 81. Aliff had offered to take care of Izz that night.

In sentencing Aliff, High Court Judge Mavis Chionh found that the circumstances of the case did not warrant the death penalty.

The prosecution sought life imprisonment and 15 to 18 strokes of the cane, while the defence sought life imprisonment and five to six strokes of the cane.

Justice Chionh said the courts have taken a tough stance towards offenders who cause the deaths of defenceless young victims by violence.

The judge noted the physical disparity between Aliff, a full-grown adult man, and Izz, who was 71cm tall and weighed 8.3kg.

She said the baby's total inability to defend himself rendered him an especially vulnerable victim.

Justice Chionh said Aliff's actions after causing the baby's death showed a "disturbing lack of remorse".

Instead of seeking medical attention, Aliff suggested to his girlfriend, Ms Nadiah Abdul Jalil, that they should pay someone to bury Izz and report him as missing a year later.

Aliff told Ms Nadiah they should tell the same story of an accidental fall and delayed taking her and Izz to the National University Hospital's accident and emergency department.

Maybe he just saw LKY's stop at two promotion video.
15 stroke of the cane is inflicting same cruelty he gave to the murdered baby. Its inhumane. His punishment will be metted out in tne next life and not on this.
If the gf pardons him, under MUIS religious law, he should be free.

Under that silly islamic tribal law, he still needs to pay to a derisory blood money ang pao before he can be set free, presumably with no criminal record.

Local minahs should learn from kelantanese ladies who avoid local mat rempits like a plague. Chances of getting aids high due to drug problems.

Wrong.
The family has the right to reject blood money but instead could demand the death penalty and the family's wishes takes precedence.
What is fairer than that?

Is it better to seek justice when you can seek compensation in stead?

Didn't know the orang asli mentality still so prevalent in Islam...
It's a funny habit of malays. They can happily leave their children unannounced with other Malays to look after them . Especially neighbours.

If the neighbour says they can't, then they will get a guilt trip like: "you wont even help a fellow Malay?"

Maybe it was common practice in the kumpong

Normally they will leave kids with their mum or grandma. In this case. They didn't say if bf was employed or not. Unemployed guys are not reliable.

Bf was driving a van. Must be your colleague at ninja van or lalamove

They leave young children with other Malay families in the neighborhood. And many end up molested or raped by the man of the house. Not joking about this

There is no logical or sound basis for such a law.

It's just silly tribal law pushed by bedouin camel riders through some bogus hadiths.

That's how, using their Saudi proxies, the yankee Raymon Davis got away scot free.

it's as good as those bogus Hadiths -- not quranic verses but bogus hadiths - that say Muslims should not rise up against any ruler so long as they permit you to pray and believe in Islam or such. WTF?

these are bogus hadiths obviously intended to keep most muslims subjugated.

For the same morons, I have news. You can extract camel urine, have this incident recorded on camera and share it (upload it) with the rest of the world as you drink freshly extracted camel urine. Doesn't Hadith in much esteemed Bukhari say camel urine is beneficial for human beings?

So far I haven't seen any Hadith-firsters come forward and take up this challenge.

Instead of seeking medical attention, Aliff suggested to his girlfriend, Ms Nadiah Abdul Jalil,

Is premarital physical relationship permissible in Islam?

I don't think so.

Here you have melayun - who have always been non Islamic (I use malaysian/stinky/brunei definition of melayun, not indon defn) - who followed nothing that is traditionally, usually, universally, widely recognized as Islamic in the first place.

This is what you get in kufr infested regions.

Now combined that with low IQ.

You have a recipe for a disaster.

Of coz, ASEAN natives never built any civilization, they have got no history or legend or scholars or intellectuals etc to be proud of. Just plain facts.

Justice at the whims of the family's wishes? I wouldn't trust such a dubious form of justice.

And the "family's wish" usually refers to the loudest voice in the family, usually the abusive moslem father or eldest brother. Thanks but no thanks.
