He was probably just trying to discipline the old man. You know how naughty old people can be. At their age, their brain becomes retarded due to aging, their skin becomes rotten, their health falls apart, they have problems from head to toe. Lots of old people like to talk to themselves, they have mental illnesses.
Old people cannot learn new things, they think they are still living in the 1960s where there is no television.
