Somebody shoulda given this lady an invincibility star, judging from her skills in Mario Kart. It would have been fine if she crashed out during a race along Rainbow Road, but unfortunately, she wrecked her ride in a very real way on the streets of Tokyo.

According to a report on Japanese news outlet TV Asahi, a Singaporean woman in her 30s crashed her rental cart after bumping onto a sidewalk along the buzzing entertainment district of Roponggi, with pictures and clips of the scene showing the cart firmly lodged into a structure in front of Malin’s Fish & Chips shop. Fortunately, the woman escaped with slight injuries, and no one else was injured.
According to a commenter on this Kotaku article, the victim made a “very lucky crash” on her go-kart, as it “skipped the high curb and rails” nearby before hitting the storefront.

マリカー事故ってた。真っ直ぐな道でどうやってそこに行ったのか不明すぎる。人を巻き込んでないだけでもよかったと思う。
毎日歩く道だから本当危ない。シャレにならない。

Double Dash
The cart that crashed belongs to MariCAR, a company that organizes go-karting tours around Tokyo, with users (who need to have a proper driving license) encouraged to dress up in costumes. This being Japan, of course people are going as various characters from the Mario Kart series. Nintendo tried to take on MariCAR in court for copyright infringement over the go-kart company’s resemblance to the video game franchise but lost the legal battle last year.
Judging from this accident, it’s a no-brainer that Nintendo wants nothing to do with the concept of karting on the streets of Tokyo. A Taiwanese tourist was arrested earlier this year for an alleged case of hit-and-run, with the man driving the rental go-kart while dressed as a video game character. The cyclist who was knocked down required two weeks to recover.
